The UMAI Story
David Okamoto grew up in Japan and Hawaii learning how to cook in his baa-chan's (grandmother's) kitchen. It was here that he learned how to love making delicious things to eat. He has trained with some of the world's most famous pastry chefs and has a unique ability to create unique flavors in his desserts.
Prior to the pandemic, David spent 7 years in Thailand where he opened bakeries, cafes, and an online cookie business. He counts some of Thailand's most famous amongst his customers. Now back in the United States, he is bringing his signature cookies to Washington.
"UMAI" means "delicious" in Japanese and we are excited to bring you handcrafted cookies with quality ingredients and even better flavors inspired by David's childhood and travels throughout Asia. We are grateful for all your support and we look forward to serving you (and makin' dough). Mahalo!
